Why choose to build a townhouse?

A townhouse offers all the comfort, quality and functionality of a freestanding home, but often at a lower price point than a type stand alone dwelling. By sharing a wall with the adjoining property, more townhouses can be built on a block of land and developers can sell them at a more affordable price.

Due to their smaller footprint, townhouses tend to be built in areas close to amenities and freeways, while remaining low maintenance, private and secure.

‘Townhouses offer one to three storeys, generous room sizes and all the comforts of a freestanding home,’ says Homebuyers Centre Display Designer, Nadija Saluwadana.

‘The secret is to optimise space through clever furniture selections and colours that make your home feel spacious.’

Designing the perfect townhouse.

Homebuyers Centre takes the stress out of designing your dream townhouse. Customers can choose from three expertly curated colour palettes, created by The Block’s Alisa and Lysandra.

‘You can feel confident that the colours, finishes, and textures work together to create unity and flow. You can also use these palettes as the base for a wealth of interior styles and atmospheres,’ says Nadija.

Need some design inspo? Below, Nadija steps you through three townhouse looks she created at Homebuyers Centre’s Mt Atkinson display village:

1. Contemporary pastel

Floorplan: Miki 16

Colour palette: Coastal

The Miki 16 display home is a two-bedroom design that’s equal parts modern and soothing.
Its contemporary pastel style is perfect for young professional couples who want to unwind after work.

Nadija used the Coastal colour scheme’s lighter palette, chrome tapware and oaky timber accents as her base.

‘To keep townhouses feeling open and bright, it pays to keep your interior finishes neutral. I love the upgraded Caesarstone London Grey benchtops and White Satin subway tiles of the Coastal palette,’ she says.

‘Incorporate pops of vibrant pastel feature colours through your styling. At the Mt Atkinson display home, I introduced apricots and mints in throw cushions, accessories, and artworks. This keeps the home feeling fresh.’

Avoid dark hues or fabrics, as it’ll make your spaces feel smaller. Instead, choose white and timber furniture mixed with textured, contemporary fabrics such as boucle, suggests Nadija.

2. Dopamine décor

Floorplan and façade: Kaya 20

Colour palette: Industrial

Looking for a young, fun and eclectic townhouse? Look no further than Nadija’s dopamine décor. Created with youthful homebuyers in mind, this happy style features bright colours and lots of moody contrast.

Look for furniture in shades of charcoal, black and grey. Then, thread your feature colours through cushions, ottomans, artworks and feature furniture pieces.

‘At the Mt Atkinson display home, I love the youthful injection of cobalt and pink in places you might not expect. For example, you can see the colourful outdoor setting from the street,’ says Nadija.

‘You can choose whatever colours you like best, just make sure they are complimentary. For example, orange and navy.’

If you are nervous about using bright colours, start small! Incorporate just one colour into your accessories and see how you feel.

‘Complete the sleek industrial look with polished metal or acrylic light fittings or side tables,’ adds Nadija.

3. Coastal retreat

Floorplan: Octave 18

Colour palette: Adriatic

For those who love a traditional light, bright and coastal interior – Nadija has you covered.

The Adriatic colour palette offers a cool base with plenty of white, including the Georgian Bluffs  benchtops and overhead kitchen cabinetry in Oxford Matt. Subtle touches of ocean blue begin in the feature Kit Kat tiles in the kitchen splashback and wet areas.

‘I’ve kept this more traditional interior youthful through funky, contemporary features. For example, a cluster of beachy-themed art prints instead of standalone prints. And sleek timber and linen furniture pieces instead of the classic chucky chairs and sofas,’ suggests Nadija.

‘By keeping your furniture light and minimalist, your townhouse will also feel more open.’

To complete this coastal retreat vibe, consider upgrading your sanitary pack to black.

Families with older children will also adore the four bedroom, three bathroom  Octave 18 floorplan of the Mt Atkinson display home. Offering a secondary loft area over the garage, it’s easy to create a multi-purpose space that the whole family can enjoy.

‘At the Mt Atkinson display home, I included a Murphy bed that can be folded away or converted into a desk. Perfect for teenagers, this room can also be used as a study, gym, yoga space or TV room,’ says Nadija.
