Will I be eligible for the First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) in Victoria?

To qualify for the First Home Owner Grant in Victoria (FHOG), your new home must meet the following criteria:

✔ Valued at $750,000 or less
✔ Contract signed on or after 1 July 2013
✔ A new home that has never been lived in before

You may not be eligible if:

✘ You or your partner have already received the FHOG in Australia.
✘ You or your partner have owned a home in Australia before 1 July 2000.
✘ You have lived in a home owned by either of you for at least six months on or after 1 July 2000.

Even if your spouse or partner is not a joint applicant, these conditions still may apply.

First Home Owner Grant current eligibility criteria

  • Be over 18 years of age
  • At least one applicant (you or your spouse/partner) must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Be planning to live in your home for the next six months
  • Have never owned a residential property in Victoria or anywhere else in Australia
  • Your or your spouse have never received the grant anywhere in Australia before
  • Your new home must be valued at $750,000 or less
  • Your new home has not been sold previously as a place of residence or, occupied as a home including short-term accommodation, such as Airbnb. This means the first sale of a property will not be a new home if the person who built it lived in it, or leased it out or used it for short-term accommodation.
